Cupping

Other Modalities - Points North Community Acupuncture in Coon Rapids, MNCupping is an ancient technique, used in many cultures, in which a special cup is applied to the skin and held in place by suction. The suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, which may either be left in place or moved along the body. Cupping brings fresh blood to the area and helps improve circulation. Traditional cupping, sometimes referred to as “fire cupping," uses heat to create a vacuum-like suction inside of a glass cup. Sometimes cups are used to draw blood from an area in order to strongly relieve pain or stop an illness promptly ("bleeding cupping").

Cupping can be used as an alternative to acupuncture for those who are too fearful of needles. It can also stimulate acupuncture points, relax muscles, and resolve "knots".

Please note that cupping usually leaves large red to purple marks which take hours or days to fade.

Motor Point Acupuncture

This treatment arose from sports medicine. It is an excellent way to deal with pain, especially due to tight muscles but not limited to it. A needle is inserted into a specific place to connect with the muscle's motor nerve. Electricity is then applied to the needle, causing the muscle to move. This type of treatment is labor intensive and usually takes longer than is appropriate for community acupuncture treatment. If motor point treatment is recommended, we will discuss the pros and cons. The goal for every patient: do what works to restore health as completely as possible.
